Très belle première course avec une bagarre entre les deux Honda de Thompson et Engstrom et les BMW de Poulsen et Campanico, qui terminent dans cet ordre. Juste dommage qu'il n'y a plus grand monde derrière.

71 Carsten Seifert (NK Racing Team / Ford Fiesta)
72 Jens Lohnig (ATM Racing / Ford Fiesta)
74 Sergey Krilov (ATM Racing / Ford Fiesta)

beau plateau !

Ford reveals global touring car concept
Ford has revealed the global touring car concept on the new Ford Focus at the Los Angeles International Auto Show.
"This teamwork has resulted in a global racing platform using a common Focus body and a safety cage built to FIA regulations – a competitive platform that can be tailored for regional competition, based on different rules," said Jost Capito, director of Ford Global Performance Vehicles and Motorsport Business Development.
The car is going to be available for touring car privateer teams around the world.

"There has been tremendous interest from the racing world in the new Focus, and it’s the perfect fit for a global touring car. Even more, by working with professional private race teams, we’re ensuring Focus has the support it needs to compete and win around the world," said Capito.

Ford made a similar effort with the older version of the Focus. Ford Hotfiel Sport ran four Ford Focus with semi-official support from Ford in the 2005 FIA World Touring Car Championship with limited success.

This time though Ford says it is going to be different.

"Ford’s commitment to using motorsports to influence high-performance vehicles will be highly evident, as the development of the Focus touring car will also provide valuable input as we develop the upcoming Focus ST production car," said Capito.

While Ford has confirmed to build the car in S2000 specification, it has not been confirmed to be built in NGTC specification for the BTCC. Despite that, Ford expects it to make it first appearance in the BTCC 2011.

Jeff Smith joins Eurotech in a Vauxhall Vectra
Jeff Smith is going to drive a NGTC powered Vauxhall Vectra for Team Eurotech in the British Touring Car Championship 2011.
"It’s great to have my plans for next season set in place. After my outing at Knockhill I really have a taste for the BTCC – it is the most competitive race series in the UK," said Smith to btcc.net.
The 44-year-old drove a Vauxhall Vectra for Triple Eight this year in the BTCC race weekend at Knockhill where he finished 14th in two of the races. For 2011 Smith is hoping to break in to top ten.

"I would like to be pushing towards and getting into the top ten but I’m realistic enough to know that’s not going to come instantly I don’t think people realise just how tough it is at this level," said Smith.

Eurotech ran a NGTC powered Vauxhall Vectra for Andrew Jordan in the BTCC 2010 and Smith is confident that the team is going do a good job in 2011.

"Now between Pyro and Eurotech Racing I have the opportunity to race in a championship-winning car (the Vectra won the 2007 and 2008 BTCC titles with Triple Eight) and with a race-winning team in 2011. Eurotech achieved some strong results last season with Andrew Jordan and Pirtek, particularly when you consider it was a one car team, so hopefully things will move even further forward next season," said Smith.

Smith has previously taken part in the Renault Clio Cup UK.

James Thompson confirms talks with Volvo
James Thompson has confirmed that he is in negotiations with Volvo for a drive in the Scandinavian Touring Car Championship 2011.
"We have been talking for a while, there is nothing set yet, but it could be a potentially very exciting project," said Thompson to TouringCarTimes.
Robert Dahlgren is leaving the Scandinavian championship to do a full season in the FIA World Touring Car Championship for Volvo, meaning that there is a seat available in the Polestar Volvo team for the Scandinavian championship.

"We have had a meeting, I know Christian Dahl [team boss] of Polestar Racing from before and we get along well," said Thompson.

Thompson took part in the Scandinavian Touring Car Cup this year as well as the European Touring Car Cup for Hartmann Honda. For 2011 Thompson is keeping his options open.

"My goal is to be involved in a manufacturer program. Polestar has done a fantastic job with the C30, I have raced them both in the WTCC and the Scandinavian championship," said Thompson.

The Brit says he is keen to continue racing in the Scandinavian championship next year and that Volvo could be a good option for him.

"From what I saw the Scandinavian championship is well supported and there are a lot of good cars and teams there. I mean, outside the world championship [WTCC], the Scandinavian is one of the best out there," said Thompson.

Alongside his racing, Thompson has been appointed official test driver for the new BTCC regulations NGTC. The Brit was supposed to drive the prototype NGTC Toyota Avensis last week.

"We were supposed to test last week, but it has been delayed this week. We will hopefully get a few days of testing and that is the final work before the new year," said Thompson.

Very Happy

J'aurais trouvé plus logique qu'on envoie Thompson en WTCC et Dahlgren en STCC, bien que ce dernier mérite tout à fait sa chance au niveau mondial.

López and Ponce de León join Fiat
Scuderia Fiat has signed two TC2000 champions in José María López and Gabriel Ponce de León for 2011 as the team announce their full line-up.
José María López has joined the team after four seasons racing for the Equipo Petrobras Honda Racing team, with which he won two titles.

In 2010, López had a less impressive season by his standards, finishing sixth in the drivers' standings and third of the five works Honda drivers.

Three-time TC2000 champion Gabriel Ponce de León ends an 11 year association with Ford by joining the Italian Fiat marque next year. de León was overshadowed by his new Ford team-mate Norberto Fontana this year, with the ex-Formula 1 driver taking the title in his first year with the team.

Scuderia Fiat have also confirmed that Emiliano Spataro, who took two wins on his way to finishing in fourth place in the standings will remain with the team, being the only driver of the teams' 2010 five driver line-up who does.

Emiliano López will be the newest addition to the team, moving up from the TC Pista championship. Emiliano is also the younger brother of team-mate José María.

Saab Dealer Team ditches STCC plans
The Saab Dealer Team has decided to close down their planned programme for the Swedish Touring Car Championship.
"We are closing it down, there will not be anything of it," said team boss Jan Warnestad to vf.se.
The team has completed a test program with a S2000 specification Saab 9-3, powered by a bio-gas engine. The plan was initially for the team to join the STCC for a full season in 2009, plans that has been postponed several times.

The fact that the STCC is moving towards new regulations for 2012, which are reported to be set before christmas, is one of the reasons for the team to ditch their STCC plans.

"The regulations makes it hard. It does not look like we are going to make it. You'll never know what happens in the future, but as things are now we are closing it down," said Warnestad.

TouringCarTimes visited the Saab Dealer Team during a test earlier this year at Karlskoga, as shown in the video below.

Ca serait bon ça !

Airwaves BMW switches to Ford
The Airwaves BMW team will switch to Ford Focuses for the 2011 BTCC season, purchasing the three cars built by Arena Motorsport and will run with the new Mountune developed NGTC-spec engine.
The Motorbase Performance team will compete as Airwaves Racing in 2011, with the brand entering a third year in title sponsorship of the Kent based squad.

The team are also hoping to run all three cars in this year’s British Touring Car Championship.

“From the point of view of the team going forward we need to progress, and I don’t think we can progress with what we’ve got," said Team Principal David Bartrum to TouringCarTimes.

“This opportunity came up and it was too good to miss.”

“We’ll have exactly the same engine (as Arena). The first time it runs in anger in the first race it will be the same in engine in both cars for the first time.”

The new cost saving Next Generation Touring Car platform comes into force for all teams in 2011 after a limited engine development programme by Eurotech and Pinkney Motorsport in 2010. Airwaves Racing are now the latest team to switch to the S2000 chassis with NGTC engine combination.

“The engine saving is obviously a major thing,” said Bartrum.

“The two-litre turbo NGTC Mountune engine is very cost effective, and it’s a good engine.”

“For us it’s a must, we’re a young team, we’ve not been in touring cars long and we can’t afford to have a year where we’re not going forwards….this package will enable us to do that hopefully.”

Airwaves Racing’s chief rival in the BTCC independents’ championship was Arena this season, with the Aon backed squad claiming the drivers’ title with Tom Chilton. With Arena now becoming the chassis and parts supplier to Airwaves Racing, Airwaves don’t expect to be running second best to the indie champions either:
“You always want to go up and race against everyone who wants to race you, and you want to do the best against them. Whether it’s Arena, Dynamics, West Surrey, Chevrolet – whoever it may be, we want to beat them and as a small independent team it’s quite tough to do and that’s why we want the best equipment available for us to do it with.”

David Bartrum has a history racing Fords in UK Motorsport, winning the 1998 Ford Saloon Car Championship in a Ford Escort Cosworth with 11 wins from 14 races, as well as racing with BTCC regular Dave Pinkney in the Esso Production Saloon Championship in the late 80s in Sierras.

“My own background is quite heavily Ford funnily enough, so it feels comfortable…we needed a two-litre turbo-charged engine and there isn’t one available (for the BMW) at the moment.”

"We could have carried on with the BMW, and I really am genuinely quite sad about not running the BMW, it’s a fantastic car, and their touring car heritage is massive…but if I’ve got to move brand, then a Ford it will be”.

The team have not confirmed drivers for next year, recently evaluating drivers Liam Griffin, George Richardson, Tim Bridgman and Ben Collins in the BMW 320si at Brands Hatch, but Bartrum admitted:
“We want to keep Mat Jackson, Mat’s blisteringly quick in front or rear-wheel drive…we’ve not got anything concrete done yet but I’m sure we’ll be there and we will be running three cars.”

Rob Austin Racing planning to enter Audis
Rob Austin Racing plans to step up to the BTCC with a pair of Audi A4s prepared to the new NGTC regulations in 2011.
BTCC.net confirms the team plans to enter two cars, which will be prepared by GPR Motorsport, who have already developed the template Toyota Avensis which will be used by Speedworks and Dynojet Racing next season.

GPR Motorsport's owners have a background working with Audi, and this will be the first non Toyota Next Generation Touring Car (NGTC) in the BTCC also developed by GPR Motorsport.

The team has released this artist's impression, based on Audi Sport Italia's Audi RS4 which has raced in the Italian SuperStars series.

The team hopes to have the car ready in early March, giving them a month to prepare before the first round at Brands Hatch on April 3rd.
